The 3rd Annual Brooke Jackman Run for Literacy - Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Come Join us at the 3rd Annual Brooke Jackman Run for Literacy! To benefit children in need at the 5th Annual Health & Fitness Fair and sponsored by the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce & Senator Carl L. Marcellino, participate in the 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 17th, 2008 at 10:15 am. Starting point is at the Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School Oyster Bay, NY.

Again This Year – 1/4 Mile Fun Run for Future Olympians, Age 10 and Under, 9:45 am Free . . . and Prizes for all!

DONNA KARAN AND W MAGAZINE - BJF EVENT 11/15/06

Donna Karan and W magazine are doing a launch for a new fragrance at their Manhasset Store (at the Miracle Mile). They chose the Brooke Jackman Foundation as their charity. It will be Wednesday evening, Nov. 15th (time will be posted shortly). There will be a DJ, Champagne, drinks, hors d'oeurves, shopping - should be a great night!!! men are invited too!!!

October Benefit - New York Palace Hotel

Please save the date for the fall reception - our Fifth Annual Benefit on Thursday, October 12, 2006, at the New York Palace. This Year we will have something new - A "Wine Experience," featuring wines from around the world. Enjoy the cheese and wine and bid at the silent and live auctions. Everyone attending will receive a chance to win a special bonus gift raffle. Summertime reminders will reach each of you, with invitations to follow.

The 1st Annual Brooke Jackman Run for Literacy

On Saturday May 20, 2006 the foundation is sponsoring the 1st Annual Brooke Jackman Run for Literacy. The 5K Run/Walk will take place at the Third Annual Health and Fitness Fair sponsored by the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce and Senator Carl L. Marcellino. The race begins at 10:15AM (check-in from 8:30-10:00AM) at the Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in Oyster Bay and continues over the scenic roads of the villages of Oyster Bay, Mill Neck and Upper Brookeville.

Opening of Two Brooke Jackman Libraries

On November 9th, 2005 the first Brooke Jackman Children's Library and Literacy Center at P.S. 111 Abundant Waters After School Program was opened the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting ceremony was very exciting for the BJF.

On December 8th 2005 the second Brooke Jackman Children's Library Literacy Center at the Grand Street Settlement Child Care Center in Manhattan was dedicated. Both of these libraries were funded by the Brooke Jackman Foundation with the help from the Books for Kids Foundation.

Fourth Annual Benefit

The fourth annual cocktail reception and culinary journey took place on October 20th 2005 at NYC's premier event space, Gotham Hall. The guests were overwhelmed by the great food prepard by some of NYC's hottest chefs from restaurants such as Town, The Leox Room, NAM, BICE, Bouley Bakery Market, Aureole, Four Seasons Hotel, La Grenouille and many many more. Chef Ron Ben-Israel prepared the most delectable desserts. Over $250,000 was raised during the silent and live auctions. Sal Marchiano was the maser of ceremonies and John Larocchia was auctioneer. Special thanks to Hank Lane Music, Harold Hechler Photographers, Floralies, Inc, Direct Pro, Lanco,
MerchDirect and Unimac Financial.

Book Drive to Benefit the Brooke Jackman Foundation

January-February 2005
Border Books and Music ran a book drive for the BJF. If you donated a book to BJF you received a voucher to see a Harlem Globetrotters Game in Madison Square Garden, the Nassau Coliseum or the Continental arena in N.J. Hundreds of books were received for the Brooke Packs. The Harlem Globetrotters visited two of the prorams that we support-St. Nicks Literacy Program and the reading program in Washington Heights. The players read a story aloud, provided a motivational talk and engaged the children in learning ball handling tricks.

Update on the Benefit

This year's benefit was truly successful with over 600 people in attendance raising over $300,000. Diane Prior, midday host of WKTU-103.5 FM was mistress of ceremonies. A highlight of the live auction was Oheka Castle. Five couples were treated to a private gourmet dinner in one of the castle's glorious rooms and then a luxurious stay in the guest room. The walk on role in a Farrely Brothers movie again created excitiment along with the 7 night cruise on any Silver Seas Ship and the chance of a lifetime to have dinner at Raos was another live auction item. Other live auction items included a rolex watch, a Randi Rahm designer dress, golf at Shinnecock and Deepdale Golf Clubs, a vacation at the Snack River Lodge and Spa in Wyoming and a NYC weekend at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

Our Third Annual Benefit

On October 14th 2004, we will be holding our third annual benefit. Not only will this event be at one of Manhattan's hottest new hotels, The Mandarin Oriental, for the first time ever we will be taking you on a "Culinary Journey" with some of the hottest chefs in New York! Some of the restaurants that will be participating are: Asiate~Chef Nori Sugi, Bice~chef Silvrio Chadez, Cafe Gray~Chef Gray Kunz, Lenox Room~Chef Ben Zwicker, Shun Lee~Chef Antonio Chen, Whole Foods~The Time Warner Center, V Steakhouse~Chef Jean Georges Vongrichten and Ron Ben Israel. Our auction commitee is also working hard to bring you some of the greatest items around! To name just a few we have: A $6800. Rolex watch, A $3000. Gevril watch, New York City hotel stays, many restaurants and theatre tickets, Trips to Vail, Aspen, Utah and California, La Costa in La Hoya, a Tiki Barbar signed jersey, Avon spa treatments, a Fendi bag, Jewelry Galore and much much more!

Memorial Garden

The Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in Oyster Bay dedicated a reading garden outside the library to Brooke. The garden memorializes her love of learning and especially reading. Eileen and Chuck Dubroff donated a statue of a girl reading a book which was placed in the garden. The garden was designed by Georgia Waltzer.

Our Second Annual Benefit

The second annual benefit held on October 9th at the New York Palace Hotel was a huge success. Those who came to the VIP Reception enjoyed delicious hors' d'oeuvres and breath taking city views. The silent auction items were truly exciting with California trips, a Chicago Getaway including a taping of the Oprah Winfrey Show, and a Las Vegas Trip. The New York Weekends in the Big Apple included dinners, Broadway Shows, and a day of pampering - Sports tickets and golf outings galore. Spectacular jewelry, designer bags, memorable dinners and beautiful artwork to compliment any home were available. Jon Bramnick, the auctioneer, brought the audience to a feverish pitch during the live auction. A walk-on-role in a Farrelly Brothers movie, a couture dress, your child as a Ball boy for the NY Knicks and a Silverseas Cruise were some of the exciting live auction items. A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the first Brookster awards which went to Will DiMotta and Marisa Corrado who were invaluable in making the event a success. Direct Pro provided the beautiful invitations and bookmarks designed by Will DiMotta and Marissa Corrado. Music was provided by Steven Scott Productions and Hank Lane Music. Alvin J. Bart and Sons printed the programs. Harold Hechler Associates donated the photography and Unique Image florist provided the beautiful flowers for the evening. Over $300,000 was raised for the Brooke Packs, Brooke's Books and Project Brooke.

Borders partners with BJF with a holiday "Giving-Tree"

During the 2002 holiday season, Borders Bookstores has created a "giving-tree" program on behalf of the Brooke Jackman Foundation. Seven Borders Bookstores on Long Island and Manhattan, as well as stores located in Westchester, Connecticut and New Jersey will be participating with this in-store book drive. All books collected will be used for the Brooke Pack or to create Brooke's Books libraries within NYC's homeless shelters. Natalie Portman is the celebrity spokesperson for this drive.
